But Costa da Prata is not only famous for the beaches, it’s also home for historical treasures, like castles, convents and monasterys (located in Batalha, Alcobaça, Tomar, Óbidos, Almourol, Coimbra, and many others), and traditional art treasures, such as its porcelain and crystal, as well as its gastronomy, strongly influenced by the sea, and wonderful wines. In the fishing villages or urban historic centres, the kindness and hospitality of the Portuguese is well known and has worldwide no equal. The beautiful and typical beach of Nazaré is located on the coast, in the centre of Portugal, about 100 km north of Lisbon, 100km south of Coimbra and 230 km south of Oporto. Considered by many as the most typical beach of the country, its natural beauty enchants all visitors. A mild climate, nice and friendly people, a magnificent light, traditions and fishing arts, transformed Nazaré into the muse of painters and artists, celebrated all over the world. Being part of an historical and patrimonial rich region – the Leiria/Fatima Tourist Region – Nazaré is the ideal place for unforgettable holidays. The head town of the municipality has about 10 000 inhabitants and is divided into 3 population centres: Praia, Sítio and Pederneira, which deserve an attentive visit for their beauty and history. The A Praia and O Sítio areas are linked by the Nazaré Funicular, a funicular railway. It has become a popular tourist attraction, advertising itself as a picturesque seaside village. Located on the of the Atlantic coast, it has long sandy beaches, considered by some to be among the best beaches of Portugal. The town used to be known for its traditional costumes worn by the fishermen. Their wives were dressed in black, wearing the traditional headscarf and embroidered aprons over seven flannel skirts in different colours. These dresses can still occasionally be seen. The original settlement was in Sítio on the rock face 110 m above the beach. It was the inhabitants' safe base against raids by Algerian, French, English and Dutch pirates that lasted even till the beginning of the 19th century. The Church of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré was built to commemorate a legendary miraculous intervention by the Virgin in saving the life of a 12th century knight. To visit Nazaré is to get to know its history, its people, its customs and traditions, but it is also to discover its gastronomy, its monuments, its beaches and much, much more… In the Summer, Nazaré has everyday street animation, music concerts, a well known nightlife, and several other diary activities. The beach is also very famous for it’s water sport activities and other sport activities, like beach football, beach volleyball, and many others. The city beach, Praia da Nazaré, is within a 15 minutes walking distance or less than 5 minutes by car. There are several other beaches nearby. If you prefer a swimming pool day, there is a attractive water park, only 5 minutes walking away, next to the Praia do Norte. Also the forest, Pinhal de Leiria, is nearby, perfect for walking activity. If you like bicycle rides, there is a over 50km long bicycleway through the forest, that pass by the nearby beaches. About the apartment, it is in a very calm and quiet neighbourhood and has private parking. From the terrace you can have stunning views from the sea and the forest. The apartment located on the ground level of a Villa, is 100m˛ large, has two bedrooms, one large living room, one large kitchen, one bathroom, storage room, a terrace and a nice garden with grill. The bedrooms: The bedrooms are fully furnished. One of the bedrooms has one large double bed and the other one has two beds. Both bedrooms are provided with fresh linen and blankets, once a week or more by request. The bathroom: The bathroom is equipped with bathtub and shower, bidet, basin, wc, and is provided with fresh towels everyday. The kitchen: The kitchen is large and fully equipped. It contains everything that is necessary such like cooker, oven, microwaves, toaster, blender, fridge with freezer, cooking devices, plates, etc. It also has inside a dining table. The living room: The living room is quite large. It has one large sofa, which can be used as an extra bed, two small sofas, coffee table, one dining table, TV with CableTV and Satellite Channels (with many English, French, German and other international channels), and Wi-Fi internet on request. Outside is a terrace with table and chairs and a very beautiful and nice garden. There is also a grill available, where you can make barbecues or grill fish. The apartment is also ideal for families with children or for old people, because it is located on the ground level of a Villa, and so there are no worries about stairs.
