Especially for families with children, Florida is a great compromise between fun and relaxation; it's become one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. This state in the southeastern United States boasts warm weather, hundreds of white sand beaches… and thousands of things to do. With activities ranging from theme parks, to tours of the beautiful Everglades, to space launches, there's never a boring moment. So if you are looking to book on of our many villa rentals in Florida, read on and find out what Florida has to offer.

Orlando

Orlando is in the center of Florida and in most ways, it is the center of Florida. With most of the state's many theme parks located near the city, it's the first (and sometimes the only) stop on any family vacation to Florida. With great restaurants, an exciting nightlife, and warm but not-too-humid weather year-round, it's also a popular destination for adults traveling on their own.

Walt Disney World Florida

Of course, the main Orlando attraction, especially for families, is Disney World. First built in the 1970's, Disney World spawned a host of copycat theme parks but there's nothing like the original. Today, Walt Disney World consists of four different parks making deciding where to go a little confusing.

Floridian Parrots
The main park, Magic Kingdom, is Disney World's first theme park. This is classic Disney fantasy realm, populated by Mickey and Minnie and all of Disney's most famous characters. It's also the location of Cinderella's iconic castle. Next is Disney's Epcot Center, which celebrates world culture and human ingenuity with rides, shows, and games. Another park more appropriate for adults and older children is Disney's Hollywood Studios. This Hollywood-movie themed park has lots of fun attractions and an exciting live stunt show that shouldn't be missed. Last is Disney's Animal Kingdom, a hybrid zoo-theme park that combines live and animatronics animals.

As with all theme parks, it's best to get there early, and plan a visit in the off-season if possible; lines get very long.

Universal CityWalk with Universal Studios Orlando and Islands of Adventure

As the title above implies, Universal City Walk provides a lot to do-- it may even seem like too much. The CityWalk is a popular destination in itself, a mini-city with 30 acres of shopping, food, and entertainment. At night it's full of clubs and bars, and gives adults a place to relax after a day spent in the theme parks.

Within CityWalk you'll find Universal Studios Orlando. This is a classic Orlando destination, and one not to be missed. The park opened in 1990, and many of its movie-themed attractions, like E.T. and Jaws, opened along with it. Through time, some of the less-classic attractions have become a bit outdated, but many are based on movie classics, and they add new movie attractions all the time.

Universal's two parks have two very different personalities. While Universal Studios is all about being part of a show, Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park is about getting a thrill. Full of roller coasters and exciting rides, Islands of Adventure is a great option for older children and adults. Late in 2009 "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter," will also open within Islands of Adventure. A new theme park within a theme park, it will be based on the magical world created by J.K. Rowling, complete with tours of Hogwarts and visits to Hogsmeade Village.

Sea World

Sea World is a popular destination for both adults and children. With a great combination of rides and shows, there are activities there to appeal to anybody. While Sea World does have a couple of thrill rides, like The Kraken roller coaster, the highest, longest, and faster roller coaster in Orlando, the park's most popular activities are its many live animal shows. This is one of the only places in the world to watch highly-trained killer whales and other sea mammals perform live for spectators. Feeding dolphins by hand at Sea World is an experience like none other.

Everglades

The Florida Everglades is the largest subtropical wilderness in the U.S., and its third-largest national park. A visit to the Everglades can be a great break from the rush and excitement of Orlando, and over a million people visit the park each year.

The Everglades
One great thing about the Everglades is the sheer number of things to do. There are many popular fishing areas within the park, plus hiking trails (both guided and unguided), and great photography points. The park gives a good amount of flexibility to visitors, allowing them to enjoy the park on their own, or go on one of the many guided tours. Bicycles are available for rent, as are tents and camping equipment. The tours, such as the two-hour tram tour in the middle of the "River of Grass," give visitors a chance to see the local wildlife in air conditioned safety.

Another great way to see the local wildlife is a visit to the Everglades Alligator Farm. On the edge of the park, the Everglades Alligator Farm is a working farm that was created to stop the extinction of the species. With over 3,000 alligators of all sizes, it's the perfect place to get close to these impressive creatures in safety. The farm also has an extensive display of rare snakes, and live animal shows daily.

Space Coast

About 35 miles east of Orlando is Florida's Space Coast. With 72 miles of white sand beaches, Space Coast combines the best of nature and technology; unspoiled nature preserves are found side by side with the greatest in human achievement: space travel.

The Kennedy Space Center

A visit to the Kennedy Space Center's Visitor Complex gives a glimpse into the space program. With a full-scale replica of the Space Shuttle Explorer, interactive exhibits, and activities such as the Mad Mission to Mars, the Space Center is unlike any other Florida attraction.

The Kennedy Space Center wasn't created to entertain; it's real. And because it's a working space center, visitors get a chance to see where real astronauts train, touch a piece of Mars, or even meet working astronauts in person.

Port Canaveral

After a long visit to the Kennedy Space Center, Port Canaveral is a great place to relax, especially for adults. Though it does have its fair share of theme parks and kid-aimed activities, Port Canaveral also full of luxury resorts and miles of beach. From partial-day gaming cruises to fresh caught seafood in restaurants in harbor-side marketplace, The Cove, it's something of an adult playground. Also, for those without very expensive tickets to a NASA launch, this is the best spot in Florida to watch NASA space launches.
